What to Expect From a Bike Fit at a Red Eye Service Course

A proper bike fit is not a transaction. It’s a process.

At Red Eye Service Course, our professional bike fit is not about chasing a look or landing on a single number. It’s about understanding how you ride, how your body moves, and how equipment either supports or limits that relationship over time.

Here’s what that process actually looks like.

We Start With a Conversation

Before anyone gets on a bike, we talk. Not just about pain or discomfort, but about:

  • Your riding background

  • Favorite rides and terrain

  • Disciplines you spend time in (road, gravel, cross-country, trail, etc.)

  • Training volume and intensity

  • Past or current injuries — whether you think they matter or not

This context matters. Two riders with identical measurements can require very different solutions depending on how and why they ride. Nothing is assumed. Everything is framed by your goals and history.

A Comprehensive Off-Bike Assessment

You’ll change into comfortable exercise clothing so we can evaluate how your body moves without the bike influencing the picture.

This assessment includes:

  • Static posture evaluation

  • A comprehensive movement screen, differentiating structural limitations from neuromuscular patterning

  • Identification of asymmetries, compensations, and stability strategies

Not every limitation is something to “fix.” Some are simply realities that need to be respected in position and equipment choices. In some cases, light soft-tissue work may be used to clarify what’s limiting movement and what’s adaptable. This is not usually treatment — it’s information gathering. Sometimes, it’s an intervention.

Long-term consistency in fit outcomes

Understanding Your Existing Bike

Before making any changes, your current bike is carefully measured with our bespoke Stack and Reach Finder, and replicated on the fitting station. Yes, we do make our own alignment and measurement tools.

This allows us to:

  • Preserve familiarity

  • Establish a true baseline

  • Separate you from the constraints of your equipment

You’ll spend time pedaling just to get comfortable while we begin collecting video and observational data. This helps build a clear understanding of how you move on your existing setup — what’s working, what’s not, and where compensations appear. We review this together. This is collaborative. You’re part of the process, not a passive subject.

Technology as a Shared Language

Technology plays a role in our fit process — but not as a decision-maker. At a service course, technology is used as a communication tool, not a verdict. Video, measurement systems, and real-time feedback allow riders to see what we’re seeing, so adjustments aren’t abstract or unilateral.

Instead of being told what is changing, you can observe:

  • How your movement patterns shift with each adjustment

  • Where compensations appear or quiet down

  • How stability, symmetry, or breathing change under load

We review this information together, in real time. That shared view matters. When a rider understands why a change is being made — and can see its effect — the process becomes coherent. Adjustments feel intentional, and agreement builds trust.

This transparency also keeps changes honest. If an adjustment doesn’t improve movement, comfort, or control, it doesn’t stay — regardless of what a tool or protocol might suggest.

Technology doesn’t replace experience or judgment. It supports clarity, alignment, and informed decision-making between rider and fitter.

The limits of normalized fit data

Exploration, Not Prescription

From there, we begin making changes. This phase is intentionally experimental. Trial and error is not a flaw in the process — it is the process.

We adjust:

  • Contact points

  • Foot support

  • Stability demands

You pedal. We observe. We discuss how it feels and what changes. The goal is not perfection — it’s connection. When riders feel connected to the bike, movement becomes quieter, effort becomes more efficient, and discomfort often fades without being chased directly.

Position as a dynamic system

Adding Load and Fatigue

As confidence grows, effort increases. You’ll pedal harder to see how the position holds up under load and early fatigue. Many positions that feel fine at low intensity reveal weaknesses as effort rises. When something breaks down, we adjust — and repeat.

This loop continues until the position is:

  • Stable

  • Sustainable

  • Aligned with your goals

Only then do we move forward.

Equipment Reality Check

Once a functional position is established, we address the practical question: Can your existing equipment support this position?

Sometimes the answer is yes — with compromises. Sometimes changes are required.

Common considerations include:

  • Cleat setup or internal foot support (insoles)

  • Saddle shape or width

  • Handlebar design

  • Stem length or angle

These decisions are made together, transparently, with a clear understanding of tradeoffs. The goal is not to sell parts — it’s to respect the position we’ve discovered and make it repeatable outside the studio.

Follow-Up and Reassessment

Whenever possible, a follow-up session is scheduled three to four weeks later.

This allows time for:

  • Real-world riding

  • Adaptation

  • Feedback under true conditions

Positions evolve as bodies adapt. Reassessment is not a correction — it’s part of responsible, long-term support within a service course, a model increasingly valued by Front Range cyclists who care about durability over quick fixes.
